The Complete Guide to Boston's 2026 Portfolio

Everything you need to know about our six qualifications - the details, the pathways, and how it actually works.

If you saw the recent LinkedIn post from Prof Cobus Oosthuizen, our Dean of Postgraduate Studies, you'll know we have expanded our portfolio of advanced and postgraduate qualifications for 2026. But a LinkedIn post can only say so much.

This is the deeper dive into the entry requirements, study options, support structure, and what each qualification prepares you for to accelerate your career. If you're serious about taking the next step, this is where you'll find the answers.

First, the Credentials That Matter

Before we get into the qualifications, let's talk about why they carry weight.

Boston is the first South African institution to hold ACBSP accreditation for specific programmes - awarded in December 2024 for ten years. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs is recognised by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Washington, DC. When employers in New York, London, or Nairobi see ACBSP on your CV, they know exactly what it means.

We're also institutionally accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC), a member of the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR). This validates our governance, quality systems, and student support - not just individual programmes, but the entire institution.

Add to that CHE accreditation for all qualifications, SAQA and DHET registration, membership of the Association of African Universities (AAU), and SABSA membership for our MBA.

Plus, graduates may be eligible for recognition by the Golden Key Honour Society.

The point? Your qualification travels with you.

The Six Qualifications

ACBSP Candidate for Accreditation | 180 credits | 24 to 36 months

This isn't an MBA degree that sits on theory. The Boston online MBA in South Africa prepares leaders for a technology-driven marketplace where the human workforce, intelligent machines, and data converge.

You'll develop competencies in strategic foresight, ESG-benchmarkable frameworks, responsible leadership, and data-informed decision-making. This postgraduate qualification demands intellectual independence - you'll synthesise knowledge across disciplines and apply it to complex local, regional, and global market environments.

ACBSP Candidate for Accreditation | 120 credits | 1 year minimum

If you want to move from HR administrator to strategic partner, this is the HRM Honour Degree that gets you there.

You'll build expertise in strategic HRM, advanced labour economics, relations and law, organisational behaviour, corporate governance, and HR analytics. A dedicated research project develops your ability to investigate real organisational challenges using evidence-based thinking.

ACBSP Accredited | 128 credits | 1 year minimum

The fastest route to formalising your management experience - and a direct pathway into the MBA.

Open to graduates of any Bachelor's degree or Advanced Diploma, this honours equivalent qualification builds 21st-century leadership skills: global marketing, legal awareness in the workplace, change management, financial management, and brand management.

Choose a specialisation in entrepreneurship, project management, or supply chain and logistics. A dedicated research project develops your ability to investigate real-world managerial challenges using evidence-based thinking.

SAICA Endorsed | 120 credits | 1 to 2 years

Your pathway to CA(SA).

Building on Boston's SAICA-endorsed Bachelor of Accounting, this programme prepares you for SAICA's Initial Assessment of Competence examination. Both qualifications align with the CA of the Future Competency Framework, integrating professional values, technical skills, and enabling competencies at the appropriate levels.

You'll deepen expertise in financial reporting, advanced auditing, taxation, and management accounting while developing the critical analysis, ethical judgment, and integrated problem-solving that define trusted leaders in commerce.

Advanced Qualification Options

South Africa needs qualified teachers. If you hold a relevant degree or a DHET-approved diploma, this programme provides you with the foundation to step confidently into the classroom.

You'll build practical teaching skills for Grades 7 to 12, complete structured teaching practice in real schools, and prepare for SACE professional registration. This online PGCE develops your ability to engage with subject matter critically, implement appropriate pedagogical approaches, and reflect on your practice.

Leadership that works in the real world.

This isn't a generic management course. It's an immersive specialisation in adaptive leadership - a practical approach to solving business issues that guides leaders in identifying what matters and discarding what doesn't.

You'll develop emotional intelligence, personal resilience, ethical and inclusive leadership practice, strategic decision-making, and an understanding of how leadership works across corporate, public, and development sectors.

How It Actually Works: Study That Fits Your Life

"The evolving business landscape requires us to think differently about senior management, executive, and leadership education," says Professor Cobus Oosthuizen, Dean of Postgraduate Studies. "Our portfolio of advanced and postgraduate qualifications combines international best practices with local context, delivered through our proven flexible learning model that enables professionals to advance their careers while studying."

Everything runs through our Open Distance e-Learning model. You control the time, place, path, and pace. Study from home, work, during your commute, or at one of our 50 Support Centres nationwide.

But flexible doesn't mean alone.

Every student has access to dedicated student advisors. Our monitoring systems flag when someone's falling behind - so we can reach out before small gaps become bigger challenges. Experienced educators, available when you need them, keep you on track.

TEXTBOOKS+

Here's something that sets Boston apart: TEXTBOOKS+.

Every Boston higher education student gets immediate access to their prescribed textbooks in digital format, plus a library of over one million additional titles. No extra cost - it's included in your fees.

But TEXTBOOKS+ isn't just about access. It's about expanding on the digital competencies you need.

In professional environments, you're expected to navigate complex digital ecosystems, manage cloud-based resources, and synthesise knowledge from multiple sources. TEXTBOOKS+ embeds these exact capabilities into your daily learning experience.

Real Results: From Short Course to MBA

The transformative power of this approach is best seen in graduates like Thoko Tshabalala-Shandu, Managing Director of VEA Road Maintenance & Civils.

She started with a short learning programme for Software Specialists. Then a Bachelor of Commerce. Then the Advanced Diploma in Adaptive Leadership. Then the Postgraduate Diploma in Management. Now she's pursuing her MBA.

"What I enjoy most about my work is creating lasting impact," she explains. "Beyond building roads, my work is about building futures."

Her achievements include the ERWIC Award for Women in Construction, the BBQ Businesswoman of the Year Award and Standard Bank Top Women Entrepreneur finalist.

That's the pathway. One qualification builds on the next. Each step opens the door to the one after.
