Football Coaching and Administration Short Course

The Football Coaching and Administration Short Course  at Boston City Campus prepares you for entry level roles in South Africa’s football and sports environment. It gives you a clear grounding in the structure of the game and the core skills needed to support coaching and football operations.

You study football history, coaching principles and the foundations of player development. You learn how training, nutrition, sleep and fitness shape performance and gain a working understanding of the rules of the game.

The course also introduces injury identification, basic prevention methods and safe management practices. It is a practical short course built for anyone who wants to start a career in football coaching or move into football administration in South Africa.

This programme is offered by Boston City Campus in the distance mode of education with support provided at Learner Support Centres. Apply to register at any Boston City Campus Learner Support Centre nationwide.

*Formative Assessments are undertaken and the highest grade achieved in Formative Assessment is retained. The final grade is based on the Summative Assessment only. A maximum of one (1) additional supplementary assessment opportunity is provided for the Summative Assessment, which will be charged for.

  • Ability to operate effectively in the workplace using a number of Windows-based end-user applications
  • Knowledge of the history of football
  • An understanding of the structures of international and national football
  • A thorough knowledge of international and national football competitions
  • Ability to understand the food, sleep and fitness implications for footballers
  • An understanding of the characteristics of a good coach
  • Ability to correctly identify “in play/out of play”, goal, offside, free kick, penalty, foul, throw-in, goal kick, corner kick and more
  • Ability to understand the causes and prevention of football injuries
