Computer Technician

Being a computer technician is all about diagnosing and resolving technical issues with computers and related equipment. Computer technicians play a vital role in ensuring that hardware and software systems run smoothly, whether it’s for individual users, businesses, or organisations.

If you possess a Grade 10 Certificate, National Certificate (Vocational) Level 2, or equivalent qualification, this accelerated skills acquisition course will equip you with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to excel as a computer technician within a six-month timeframe.

This short learning programme is aligned to A+ CompTIA syllabus, giving learners the option to sit for the two international CompTIA A+ exams.

6 Months (full-time)

Entry Requirements

Grade 10 Certificate; or National Certificate (Vocational) Level 2; or equivalent qualification. Computer Literacy recommended.

This programme is offered by Boston City Campus in the distance mode of education with support provided at Learner Support Centres. Apply to register at any Boston City Campus Learner Support Centre nationwide or online.

All modules are compulsory and must be passed.

*The Learner may participate in as many non-formal Formative Assessments as are required in order to prepare for the International exam. Once declared ready, the Learner may then sit for the International Summative Assessment. All International Summative Assessments require a Learner to be declared Competent. There is no supplementary opportunity as the Learner is permitted to sit for the International Summative Assessment as many times as is required, until declared Competent. Each International Summative Assessment sitting attracts an additional fee.

**Formative Assessments are undertaken and the highest grade achieved in Formative Assessment is retained. The final grade is based on the Summative Assessment only. A maximum of one (1) additional supplementary assessment opportunity is provided for the Summative Assessment, which will be charged for.

Prescribed textbooks are included in tuition fees.

OPTIONAL: The Computer Technician and the Networking Technician modules are aligned to the A+ (CompTIA) and Network+ (CompTIA) syllabus. This means that learners may elect to sit for the International CompTIA A+ exams (2) and the International CompTIA Network+ exam.

Learners may sit their International Microsoft Examinations and International CompTIA Examinations at Boston City Campus. These examination fees are excluded but charged at cost. Please note that certification requirements, Module names and Exam Codes are subject to change and such change is at the discretion of Microsoft and CompTIA.

On successful completion the Learner will be issued with a Boston Short Learning Programme Computer Technician.

Should the learner choose to sit for the two (2) international CompTIA exams, then on successful completion of both, the Learner will be issued with an A+ Credential Certificate from CompTIA (internationally recognised).
