Whether you envision yourself arguing cases before a judge or shaping decisions in the boardroom, Boston City Campus offers accredited pathways designed to turn ambition into reality.

Two Degree Pathways, Countless Opportunities

The three year Bachelor of Commerce in Law (BCom Law) prepares graduates for roles where legal knowledge meets commercial acumen - equipping graduates with a strong blend of legal and commercial expertise. Graduates are prepared for roles in corporate governance, compliance, contract management, risk and regulatory affairs, and related business environments where legal insight supports strategic and operational decision-making.

The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) is the professional degree required for admission as a legal practitioner (attorney or advocate) in South Africa. Built on the foundation of “knowing, being, and doing,” this comprehensive four year qualification provides students with a robust understanding of legal principles, critical thinking skills, and practical competencies necessary to excel in the dynamic legal sphere. The LLB allows for a full spectrum of legal careers: from traditional practice as a legal practitioner (attorney or advocate) to specialised roles such as Legal Knowledge Manager or Financial Crime Compliance Officer.

"The evolving legal landscape requires us to rethink how we educate and prepare future legal professionals," says Dr Gretchen Adams, Deputy Registrar: Academic. "Our curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical application to equip students with the expertise needed to excel in an increasingly complex and digitised legal environment.

Professional-Grade Legal Research Tools Included

Boston City Campus provides all BCom Law and LLB students with free access to premium legal research platforms - resources that practicing attorneys and law firms pay substantial fees to use. This ensures that Boston graduates are consistently exposed to the most recent legal developments, case law, and legislation, while also becoming fully competent in using the same professional research tools relied on in legal practice. As a result, graduates enter the workplace not only academically prepared, but technologically fluent, research-capable, and equipped with the practical skills and competencies needed to contribute effectively from day one.

Through these platforms, students receive daily, expertly curated case summaries structured around a recognised legal reasoning framework, enabling them to remain continuously up to date with key judgments while developing strong analytical and interpretive skills. AI-driven search capability allows students to locate relevant case law using natural-language queries, mirroring the way modern practitioners conduct legal research. In addition, students benefit from comprehensive access to South African legislation and authoritative law reports spanning nearly two centuries, as well as leading legal encyclopaedias and specialised report series across major fields such as constitutional and labour law. For those who prefer audio learning formats, daily podcasts of significant cases provide an accessible way to stay informed. Together, this integrated access ensures that Boston graduates leave not only with a deep and current understanding of the law, but also with the practical research competence and digital fluency required to enter the workplace confidently and contribute effectively from day one.

BCom Law and LLB students also benefit from TEXTBOOKS+, as every higher education student across Boston’s 50 Support Centres now has instant access to their prescribed textbooks in digital format, plus a library of over one million additional titles. TEXTBOOKS+ is built for how students actually learn. Listen to the Deep Dive about TEXTBOOKS+.

Skip the Points Race

In a departure from the restrictive points systems that define entry into most public universities, Boston City Campus honours the national senior certificate with a bachelor's degree endorsement as sufficient evidence of readiness for higher education.

"We believe that the national senior certificate with an endorsement for bachelor's degree studies already represents a significant achievement and demonstrates a student's readiness for higher education," explains Dr Hendrik Botha, Head of Institution. "By honouring this standard without adding extra barriers, we're creating genuine opportunities for capable students who might otherwise be excluded from higher education."

For candidates with a national senior certificate endorsed for diploma or higher certificate studies only, Boston City Campus offers the accredited one-year Higher Certificate in Paralegal Practice, which provides for recognition and advanced placement into the Boston BCom Law or LLB.

Flexibility Built for Real Life

Boston's online study model gives students full control over the time, place, path, and pace of their studies. Both the BCom Law and the LLB offer a maximum completion time of nine years, accommodating students no matter their work, home or personal circumstances and responsibilities.

This is complemented by 50 Support Centres nationwide, providing IT access and personalised support. Technology driven, yet people supported.
