# DJ'ing Fundamentals Short Course

The DJing Fundamentals Short Course gives you a solid foundation in the skills every working DJ relies on. You learn beat matching, mixing, cueing, track structure, creative transitions and basic performance technique. The course also develops your musical judgement, critical listening and confidence behind the decks.

It is designed for beginners and emerging DJs who want structured training before moving into more advanced DJing or digital performance. The course is offered in blended mode through selected Boston City Campus Support Centres.

Entry Requirements

Open Entry,

with a recommended minimum of Grade 10   
(or equivalent) and 18 years of age. These are guidelines rather than formal entry requirements.

**All modules are compulsory and must be passed.**

## How You'll Be Assessed

**SC Assessment Strategy 3 (ASSC3):** The formative assessment (FA1), also known as an assignment, will count fifty percent (50%) towards the overall mark. Summative assessments in the form of a final exam (SA1), will count fifty percent (50%).

## Outcomes

- Understand the historical significance of DJ’ing on the music culture.
- Identify the different types of industry-level equipment used in the DJing industry.
- Developing a basic understanding of pitch versus tempo and how this affects music in DJing.
- Develop a clear understanding of music libraries and how to collect music.
- Understand the Camelot chart system and how it affects music arrangement.
- Understand the necessity of using DJ effects for performance enhancement.
- Develop the ability to create a mood and energy during performances.
